Victimology from a police perspective

Abstract

Victimology is the study of the victims of crime. Thispaper studies Victimology from a former police officerspoint of view using criminology. Crimes are broken down by intent versus non?intent by categorizing thetype of crime the victim encounters. These type ofcrimes discussed include crimes of passion, crimes of occurrence, and crimes of accidents. Crimes of passioninvolve heavy emotion outweighing logic and reasoning.Crimes of occurrence are crimes that involve victimsbeing in the right place at the right time. Victims ofcrimes of occurrence do not specifically know thesuspect. Finally, crimes of accidents include victimsunintentionally being injured or killed unintentionallyand by accident.
